LakeShore 7400 Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) The laboratory is equipped with a highly-sensitive system to measure the magnetic properties; it is the well-known Lakeshore 7400 vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The sample under the test can be in the form of powder, liquid, bulk, thin film, pellet, or any kind of shape that can be attached to the film sample holder. The vibrating head, to which the sample is attached, can be rotated by 360 deg, enabling measurements of the magnetization at an arbitrary angle between the magnetic field and the sample. Such a measurement can provide information about the magnetic texture in the material, the induced anisotropy, exchange bias, etc. Also, the temperature dependence of magnetization can be measured using 74035 single-stage variable temperature kit, which allows us to take the measurements from 100 K to 950 K using LN2, nitrogen, and argon gas. A single point measurement can be taken at 78 K. The system provides 4-probe magnetoresistance (MR) measurements using 74046 magnetoresistance (MR) probe. The MR probe performs fast and accurate measurements of GMR, TMR and other MR structures and applications as a function of both in-plane magnetic field and temperature.
